In The Beginning Was The Word

Bro. Paul Inman

John 1:1-2

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

In the first chapter of Genesis we are told In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

We are not given a date as to when this "beginning" occured or how much time elapsed between verses one and two. Millions of years? Thousands of years?

First Day Day and Night
Second Day Heaven
Third Day Earth
Fourth Day Sun, Moon and Stars
Fifth Day Birds of the air, fish of the sea, and beast of the field
Sixth Day Man and Woman
Seventh Day And God did rest

Genesis 1:31

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good........

All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.

This was our beginning

God created the man and the woman and gave them a law to keep, but they disobeyed the Word of God and as a result, a curse was placed on the man and the woman, and upon the earth and all creatures.

Man fell from the very good state in which God created him, to that of sin and death. The beauty of Eden was no longer man's to enjoy. God drove him out of the garden and placed cherubims and a flaming sword, which turned every way, to keep man out and away from the tree of life.

In Him was life: and the life was the light of men.

Through God's great mercy, He made a promise that could redeem man from sin and death. (Genesis 3:15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Through the promised seed, God has made a way for man to once again be restored to the paradise of Eden.

And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.

Those that walk in darkness cannot see the light. All down through the turning of time it has been so. Many fail to see the light, for they are lovers of the darkness, rather than seeking the light that giveth life.

The Apostle Paul in 1 Cor. 15:22-23 said "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the First-Fruits: Afterwards they that are Christ's at his coming."

This was the atonement work of God, the bruising of the heel of the seed of the woman, the covering of the man and the woman with the skins of animals.

Gen. 3:21 Unto Adam and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothed them

It took the shedding of blood to cover the sins of man. This was pointing to the promised saviour, the bruising of his heel, the shedding of blood, to the one that could win victory over sin and death.

And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory of he only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.

Luke 1:26-35 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,
to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.
You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"
The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called
[1] the Son of God.

[1] [35] Or So the child to be born will be called holy,

This was the fulfillment of John 1:1. It was God's plan of redemption from the very beginning in the garden of eden. God's word is sure, He will, in His own time and order, bring all His promised to pass.

(John 3:16-19) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, [1] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. [2]
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

[16] Or his only begotten Son
[18] Or God's only begotten Son

This shows the love and the mercy our God hath Bestowed upon his people, those that know and love God.
In John 3:3 Jesus said to Nicodemus,.... verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.
The apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans said But God commandeth His love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
For if, when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the Death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin:   And so death passed upon all men for all have sinned:
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one: much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ.
Therefore as by the offence of one, judgement came upon all men to condemnation: Even so by the righteousness of the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

This shows us the way in which God has, through His Dear Son made a way for mortal man to find eternal, immortal life.
Through the knowledge of the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, then with full understanding of these things we repent, and obey the command of or Master to be Baptized.
To be born of the water and the spirit, or knowledge of God's plan of redemption, then we can be born again.
We are then no longer the sons and daughters of Adam. But we become the sons and daughters of God.
We then must take up our cross and follow our Master every day, every minute. We dedicate our lives to our God and through his Dear Son we find mercy and Grace.
His commandments we must keep. And after we put on His saving name we must keep his commandment to eat of His flesh and drink of His blood on the first day of the week.
I (John 6:35-40 ) we read, and Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: He that cometh to me shall never hunger: and a he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me and Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
For I am come down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me.
And this is the will of Him that sent me, that everyone which seethe the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting lie: and I will raise Him up at the last day.

It is as the apostle Paul declared:

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God:

Brethren and Sisters, as we live in these last days of Gentile times, we see many change taking place.
Let us take courage and lift up our heads, for our Master draweth nigh.
There are many things that draw us away from the service of God, taking our time and attention.
Let us make the effort and take time to keep oil in our lamps, ever looking for our Masters return.
In John 7:67-69 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, will ye also go away?     Then Simon Peter answered Him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.
And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ the Son of the Living God.

Brethen and sisters, where can we go? Where can we find the love and the peace of mind that our Master gives to us?
David said, (Psalms 55: 1-8 ) Give ear to my prayer, Oh God: and hide not thyself from my supplication.
Attend unto me and hear me:   I mourn in my complaint, and make a
And I said, oh that I had wings like a dove: For then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness.
I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest. David said: evening, and morning a, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: And He shall hear my voice:
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Lord, to whom shall we go? Though hast the words of eternal life.
We have come this day to give honor and praise to our Heavenly Father and to remember His dear son in the appointed way. This we do each week until He comes
In John 6:47-57 We are told of the way and of the death and the resurrection and victory of the Lord Jesus Christ that he has won over sin and death.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me hath eternal live.
I am the bread of life. I am the living bread which came down from Heaven: If any man eat of this bread, He shall live forever: And the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the world.
Then said Jesus unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you.
Who so eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life: and I will raise Him up at the last day..
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.     He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and
I in Him.
As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so He that eateth me, even He shall live by me.

Brethren and sisters, we must eat and drink of the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. We must become one with our Master in though and deed. We must eat of His flesh and drink of his blood as is symbolized in the bread and wine.
In John 7:37-38) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living waters.
Brethren and sisters, we have the invitation to come and be a part of the Household of God.
To be one with God through the saving name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Never a man spake like this Man.

Behold, what manner of love the FAther hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:
Brethren and Sisters let us close the word of exhortation with the words of the Apostle Paul, that he wrote to the brethren at Philippi, that apply to all of the household of God,
...brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do. Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Rejoice in the Lord alway: And again, I say rejoice. Let our moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing: but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Brethren and Sisters: (Psa. 118:24) This is the day which the Lord hath made: We will rejoice and be glad in it.
We have been invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. To be with our Master, and our Loved ones are to b among those that will give praise and honor to our God as we sing the victory song of the Lamb.
